What is a Doula?

A doula is a hired support partner for birth and/or the postpartum period. A doula is there to provide their clients with continuous emotional, physical, and educational support throughout labor and delivery. The doula will do everything they can to help provide the birthing person with an easier, safe, and more positive birth experience.

Not only are doulas great for support. but there are also many statistics that show how doulas can improve the outcomes of your birth experience.

  • 9% reduction in the use of pain medications

  • 28% decrease in the risk of a cesarean birth

  • 31% drop in the use of Pitocin

  • 34% fewer negative birth experiences

  • 60% less likely to ask for an epidural during birth

  • 40 minutes shorter labor, on average

  • More relaxation and a sense of calm during birth

  • Higher APGAR scores for babies after birth

  • Fewer births with the need of forceps or a vacuum for delivery

  • Increased breastfeeding outcomes with prenatal and postpartum doula care

“Birth is something we never forget. It’s one of those life altering experiences that stick with you forever. My goal as a doula is to help yours be a positive, joyful memory that you think back on with love for the rest of your life.”
